5 Reasons to do an Engagement Session with Your Wedding Photographer

Are you recently engaged? If so, congratulations! This is such an exciting time in your life and in your relationship! In these moments leading up to your big day, it will go by quickly while simultaneously feeling like an eternity. When you are in the throes of planning, booking vendors, and making allll the decisions, time might feel a bit scarce. Feelings of anxiousness might arise as you look at the calendar and countdown the days. With the long list of to-dos, some couples are opting out of engagement sessions. There are many reasons couples choose not to do an engagement session, but the most common are due to time or because they had proposal or vacation photos taken recently. While these reasons are valid, there are so many benefits to engagement portraits! Here are my top 5 reasons to do an engagement session with your wedding photographer.

5 Reasons To Do Engagement Session

01. Getting to know your photographer

The first reason to schedule an engagement session with your photographer is so you can get to know each other. You will be spending all day with your wedding photographer on your big day! This will allow both you and your photographer to gain a deeper connection. You can get to know their style, direction, and personality, while they get to know you and your partner. They will want to hear your story, and learn more about your relationship. This also helps you to feel more comfortable on your wedding day because you’ve established an in-person relationship with your photographer.

02. Gain confidence and experience posing

Engagement photos are especially helpful if you are nervous in front of the camera. Your photographer will help guide you into poses and as a result you will grow in your confidence. You and your partner can discuss and practice poses or specific shots you want captured on your wedding day.

03. Beautiful images to use

Not only will you have gorgeous images from this significant moment in your relationship, but you can then take those images and use them in a variety of ways! Your engagement photos can be used for your Save The Dates, wedding guestbook, or even as wedding decor. Many also upload their engagement photos to their wedding website.

04. Professional images not in wedding attire

While I am a huge fan of wedding photos, obviously, it is nice to have professional images of you and your partner not in wedding attire. During your engagement session, you can let a little more of your personal style shine through. You can have a more casual, classic engagement look, or an elegant and sophisticated session.

05. It makes for a fun date night!

Turn your engagement session into a date night! Get dressed up, have your photos taken together, and then go out and celebrate after. This is such an exciting time in life and you should take time to pause, celebrate, and enjoy the moment!

In addition to these 5 Reasons to do Engagement Session, I also believe it is incredibly important to have images from this iconic moment in your life. Your engagement is such a small window of time when compared to your life together as husband and wife, and sometimes even to the years spent dating. I am an advocate for documenting each season of life and phase of your relationship! Images are time capsules that transport you back to that particular moment in life. You will want to remember your engagement. As you look back on your engagement session you will remember the anxious excitement, the overwhelm from all the decisions and to-dos, but also the joy in knowing you had found the one! Your engagement is a part of your love story. Let your wedding photographer capture this exciting moment!
