Wedding Day Details To Have Ready For Your Photographer

As a wedding photographer, there is nothing I love more than capturing couples’ wedding day memories. I want to document every small, intimate detail of your big day, as well as those grand, monumental moments too! Your wedding album will tell a story of one of the most important days in your life! In order to capture every detail, there are a few things you can do ahead of time to help your photographer. Here are a few wedding day details to have ready for your photographer! This ensures that every aspect of your day is documented and remembered for generations to come.

Preparing your Wedding Day Details for your photographer

Wedding Dress + Veil

Your dress is a focal point! In order to get stunning pictures, have your wedding dress and veil ready to go by removing any stuffing, cutting off tags, and hanging it on a non-plastic hanger. These simple steps save a lot of time and allow your photographer to capture your dress quickly and move on to all the other special details. Extra Tip:  If you want your bridesmaids dresses to be photographed, make sure to have matching hangers for each dress for a cohesive, elevated look.

Gather the Details Ahead of Time

Before your wedding day, gather all your details together.  Next, remove all the tags and put them in a box or something that’s easy to transport. Then, on  your wedding day, your photographer can grab the box of items and easily find a spot with good light to photograph the items.

If you want certain things photographed together, for example vow books, all 3 rings, etc., keep them together with the bride’s details. Other examples of details to include are rings, invitation suite, jewelry, perfume/cologne, cufflinks, ring boxes, or any special item or family heirloom, (example: grandmother’s locket).

Invitation Suite

Save two full copies of your invitation suite, including the addressed envelopes. Save these copies in the box of details for your photographer. Also, be sure to include any extra ribbon, wax seals, vintage stamps, or other stationary items as well.

wedding invitations and flatlaysFlorals

Ask your florist for any loose blooms that match your wedding bouquets to style your details.  Smaller, dainty flowers work better than larger flowers. Adding in flowers elevates the detail shots and provides an elegant, classic look to your photographs. Pro Tip: Coordinate the arrival of these florals for the designated time that the wedding detail photos are slated to happen.

Getting Ready Detail Photos

Your wedding photographer will likely take photos of you and your bridesmaids as you get ready for your big day! You’ll definitely want to document this fleeting moment with your best friends. In order to get the best photos, be sure to keep the “getting ready” space tidy and clean. Clear out water bottles, trash, etc. Also, try to keep everyone’s belongings in one area that won’t be photographed or creep into photo backgrounds.

Less is More

When it comes to wedding day details, don’t assume you need a ton of items or details. In most cases, less is more. Curate your details so that they go together seamlessly and set the tone for your wedding day

Hire a Flat Lay Stylist

Hiring a flat lay stylist is another amazing way to elevate your photos. I often work with Hazel Dust Studio, an amazing styling company that comes the day of your wedding to style your details into an elegant arrangement.  They also provide antique props and unique, artistic items that are added in to complete the desired look or style.

As the days to your joyous wedding day draw closer and closer, I hope these tips help you prepare for your wedding day photos! By taking the time to gather and prepare these items, your photographer will not only love you, but will be able to capture the best possible wedding photos from your magical day. It will also help your photographer curate a lovely storyline of your wedding day and all it entails so that you can enjoy the memories for a lifetime.
